Belize Day 2: Sunburns and Permit

North 40 fly shop is live in Belize and are loving the accommodations this year.  "Big improvement over past years," says Paul.

I received a snapchat from Joe late after the first day.  I think he was trying to make me feel better with this...

...didn't work.  They were still taking shots at Permit all day.  This is Joe's first salt trip and the wind was a big challenge he told me.

Terry Jenner and his dad Joe are also on the trip with us this year.  This always seems to happen but Terry landed his first bonefish (macabi in Spanish) on his first day, and his first permit on his second day!  AND... Terry's dad caught a permit too (palometa in Spanish).  Watch for tarpon (sabalo in Spanish) photos coming on day 3 with these guys winning streak.

This not making me even kind of less jealous than before.  Now I'm on Kayak.com looking up flights for next year already.

Denver and Paul fished with Will from Belize Fly and Tres Pescados fly shop.  Paul's says Will is intense on the boat which is exactly what you want if you are serious about landing permit.  Denver did hook up to a permit yesterday but lost it.

Denver and Paul ended the day on some big bonefish one of which nearly straightened a Gamakatsu saltwater hook.  I got this email from Denver late last night...

Closing word of wisdom w/ Paul

"If he wants to be treated like a trout, treat him like a trout." These spoken from Super Mario, amazing guide for Terry as he caught his first ever bonefish. Although some of the bonefish were small, our trip to Belize started with a bang. Everyone hooked up with bonefish despite the high winds and cloudy skies. Lots of smiles and stories of the day were rehashed as everyone returned to Pelican Reef. It took some time for u to find our cast in the 40mph wind. There were shots at permit, (you’ll have to come in to the shop sometime and talk to Joe about that), but bonefish were the story of day 1 in Belize. Looking forward to day 2: new opportunities and new fish.
