Chopaka Lake Report 6.25.16

The weather has started to warm up again with these bright, sunny days. The angler activity at the lake has been some of the heaviest I have seen in a lot of years; at times there was 40 to 50 various styles of one person water crafts on the water. It appears to has slowed down a little now. The callibaetis hatch was a good one this year with a lot of anglers having great days with fish eagerly taking surface dries. Of course, the chironomid fishing was as good as it always is.

The direction now is the damsel flies that have been coming out for a while now. Both nymphs and dries have been the bug of choice for most angles, as evident by the number of times I've had to restock the fly bins in the shop. I noticed a little hopper activity along the shoreline so it wouldn’t hurt to have a few in your box.

Then you have those of us who are more incline to throw and strip leech patterns. As most, I use various black, olive and reds in my leech and bugger patterns, but lately I have found that yellow, tricolors or patterns with black and blue to be very productive.

The road in is a little rough, so take your time go in, but once there it will be worth the trip.
