EASTERN WASHINGTON FISHING REPORT

Omak Lake (WA)

When I have been able to get a little of time, when the wind is not howling like a freight train, the fishing hasn’t been too bad. I have found that a little wind blowing into shore, i.e. my face, seems to produce a little better right now than when the lake is dead calm.  I have found that a 7 or 8-weight rod will give you the power to cast a little better into the wind. And a type-3 sink tip or a full-intermediate are the two lines I would recommend. I’m still casting small to medium streamers most of the time. I have also done pretty well on balanced leeches under an indicator when there is a little chop on the water. You may have to switch flies until you find what is working for that day. So, make sure you have a variety in your box. Finally, dress warmly as morning temperatures right now are in the mid-20s.

Green Lake (WA)

Green Lake is still producing some nice rainbows in the 12 to 16-inches range along with an 18 inch every now and then. You will have better opportunities if you bring your boat. This will let you keep moving around the lake until you find the sweet spots. Small to medium leeches and buggers on a slow retrieve seem to be working best right now. Chironomids in the #16 to #14 sizes are having good results too. For line, a type-3 or 6 full sinking seems to be working the best. Most of the rainbows seem to be holding in 8 to 15 feet of water right now. With the colder weather, the lake temperature is starting to drop. The last temperature reading that was given to me a few days ago was right around 49 to 52 degrees. Mid-morning to mid-afternoon seems to be the most productive time right now. We keep edging closer to winter every day. So, take advantage of the nice days before the lake freezes over for the winter.
