EASTERN WASHINGTON FISHING REPORT

Omak Lake (WA)

With the weather changing like it is, fishing has slowed down a little. That’s not to say fishing is bad, it's just a little slower now.  For most of the open water in the area, this time of the year we can't expect to be hooking into mid-double-digit numbers of fish. But hey, at least we can get out and fish and that’s always a good thing! You might have to knock a little ice off the guides but that's okay. With the slower action, I would suggest going with an indicator set up on at least your 6-weight rod. For what flies to use, I would go with #14 black/red or all red chironomids, or black, purple, or olive balanced leeches. If the wind is calm, make sure to put a little action into your set up to get those cutts attention. Hope to see you out there!

It might be slower now but that doesn’t mean it's dead. I’m getting a few reports of some nice size rainbows putting the bite on some flies put in front of them. You may have to move around a little, but it can still be worth it. Swinging a fly would be my first choice, followed closely with an indicator set up. As far as where to fish, look for the moving water that has inside seams. If you are going to swing a fly, a medium size streamer is what I would recommend. Black would be my first choice in color, but don’t be afraid to keep switching colors and patterns until you find one that will score the most hits. This time of the year you can't go wrong with leech patterns under an indicator. Again, start with a black colored one in the #10 size and switch colors as you need to.

If the weather has you not wanting to get out, then it's time to start working on filling your boxes for next year.
