Kootenai: Fish of a Lifetime

Guide Joe Cielak was able to guide a client into the fish of a lifetime a few days ago on the Kootenai River.  Joe guides for Dave Blackburn’s Kootenai Angler http://goflyfishmontana.com/

The fish is said to weigh roughly 14lbs.  The Kootenai has been fishing very well lately, and with new access that opened this year, Idahoans can now enjoy a float on the Koot in their home state.

The nice thing about the Kootenai, is it fishes well all summer long.  The Kootenai flows out of Libby dam and is a huge tailwater that flows into Kootenai Lake.  The fish is host to several resident rainbows, bull trout, and cutthroat and has runs of large rainbows out of Kootenai Lake and kokanee as well.

For more information on the Kootenai fishery, feel free to call us at the Sandpoint shop or give Dave a call.
