Learn About Atlantic Salmon with Bill Jollymore

This Saturday, February 24, North 40 Lewiston is hosting Atlantic salmon expert Bill Jollymore. Jollymore’s presentation starts at 11 a.m. and it’s free to anyone who wants to learn about this great fish. And while you’re learning you can rub elbows with anadromous brethren while enjoying a free lunch, catered by Bravas Restaurant.

Jollymore grew up in Sydney, Nova Scotia and his interest in Atlantics grew when he visited Macleod’s Bookstore, which had half the aisles devoted to fly-fishing books. This was during the war and his father said he could not afford to buy flies, at 25-to 27 cents each, to fuel his son’s new passion. So, he told his son he’d have to tie them. Then he bought Jollymore a fly-tying kit that cost three dollars.

Jollymore said it was pretty junky, but he took it home and tore pillows open to access and utilize feathers for his flies. Since that time Jollymore has continually lived around Atlantic salmon and has tied flies for these fish throughout, giving him about 70 years worth of Atlantic salmon fishing and tying knowledge.

Recently, Jollymore said he would like to share some of that knowledge at our North 40 Fly Shop in Lewiston and we believe this is a great opportunity to learn about Atlantics from master angler and fly-tier.

You can expect Jollymore to explain his methods for taking this great gamefish on the fly, including when to go, where to go, which patterns to use, along with leader and tippet recommendations.

In addition, he’ll go over maps of some choice waters, including Nova Scotia’s Margaree, Cheticamp and North rivers. He’ll also detail some Newfoundland waters, including Flat Bay Brook and the Harrys River.

In addition, as you might expect, Jollymore will also tie a classic Atlantic salmon fly. His tying is unique because he doesn’t use synthetic materials.

Jollymore is a Hardy collector and has some early models to show off. For sure, you’ll enjoy his enthusiasm for the sport and the happiness he brings to a room.

Join us for a great opportunity to learn about one of the greatest gamefish in the world from a man who truly knows the sport.

Once again, Jollymore presents this Saturday, February 24th, at North 40 Fly Shop in Lewiston, Idaho.
