Trout Rivers

Our shop employee, Kamas, went to the Lochsa on 4/16 this week. He reported awesome fishing. Dries, streamers, and nymphs -it all worked for him. They were finding fish and fishing little mayfly patterns in size 18 and 20s. The other trout rivers around the area are all looking in great shape too. This is a prime opportunity to find some good fishing. Streamers are the favorite now around to shop this time of year. The fish are coming off a long winter and gearing up for spring runoff. We have found fish on Kelly Galloup’s mini dungeon, woolly buggers, as well as sparkle minnows in years past. Any attractor nymph will work well under an indicator too. Other flies that we would fish are a prince nymph, hare’s ear, pheasant tail, or a stonefly nymph. You might still find some skwala’s in the air, so don’t forget about the first big bug of the year.

Lake Fishing

Winchester Lake is off-colored. Visibility is under a foot. However, anglers are still catching fish. They also dumped some hatchery fish in it this week. This is a great opportunity to get your kids into some fish. Manns Lake, which is just outside of Lewiston, is off-colored as well. We have only been told of one fish caught, a little largemouth. The water temperature of Manns was 51 degrees. Soon, it will be in the right temperature for those bass to spawn. This will be a great opportunity. All other reservoirs are reporting ice, don’t get weary anglers our time is coming…
