Lochsa River

The Lochsa and other rivers around the area are finally hitting the run-off stage. Check with us periodically and we’ll let you know when these streams return to fishable levels.

Lakes and Ponds (ID & WA)

If you're antsy to get out and don't mind having a little traffic, you can try fishing Mann Lake, the levee ponds near the blue bridge, and/or the levee ponds over at the west end of Clarkston, past the country club. At Mann Lake, the Idaho Fish and Game are stocking 6,000 fish between May 7-11. This will be a great opportunity to bend your stick and gather some research on how to catch fish. Great option for kids. These aren’t native trout rising to dries, but it is an opportunity to be out with the family and throwing a line. And, these stocked fish should be ready to eat. Flies that we would use are a Woolly Bugger and a Balanced Leech. A slow retrieve, or fishing either of those under an indicator, should bring some fish to hand.

The heart of the Inland Northwest’s steelhead run swims right through Lewiston, Idaho, which sits at the confluence of the Clearwater and Snake rivers, and just downstream from two more iconic metalhead streams, Idaho's Salmon and Washington's Grande Ronde. Literally, our North 40 Fly Shop is just minutes away from some of the most famous swing runs in the world, and we know these like the backs of our hands. You can tap into our knowledge and superior local fly selection—plus the largest supply of steelhead materials and gear you’ll find under one roof in the Northwest—when you drop into the shop. You’ll also find all you need to test our killer local cutthroat streams, including the Lochsa, Selway, and North Fork Clearwater rivers, and Kelly Creek. And this: You can join North 40 in pursuit of the Gem-state’s next record smallmouth bass—we think it swims in nearby Dworshak Reservoir, but we also have gear and insight to test the Ronde and Salmon for hefty bronzebacks. Coffee is always on and our advice is free.
