Clearwater River

We fished the Clearwater this week, again with no prevail. Didn’t even getting one to sniff the fly. I have had some reports of fish being caught higher up the river. There really hasn’t been a lot of traffic on the lower river. I am hearing that traffic up-river around Orofino is steady, yet not too many anglers to feel overwhelmed. It’s all a matter of finding a player who wants to give you a run for your money. A little rain is in the forecast for the next week. The rivers should stay in shape as long as the weatherman’s predictions are correct.

Grande Ronde River

Most anglers report slow fishing. One of us fished the Ronde over the weekend and didn’t catch anything. Not even a grab. That person also ran into a lot of anglers on the water. I have had one other report from an angler saying that he has caught fish, but it has slowed down a lot. The Blue Mountains also are projected to get some rain, so keep an eye on flows. The river is on the rise and could blowing out, so keep an eye on the graphs. Intruders and nymphs are equally effective here.

Snake River

We also fished the Snake last week and didn’t touch a single fish. Fish were rolling, just not wanting to play. There were anglers in 75 percent of the runs, so people are keeping the faith. The Steelhead Derby is also going on until noon on Saturday the 25th. So expect to see lots of anglers out on the water. Depending on the type of water you fish you can swing them up with Skagit or floating lines. Anglers are catching steel on both. A Hoh-Bo Spey or a bigger ironed traditional could get the job done.
