What are the Best Fishing Sunglasses?

For me, Costa sunglasses offer the best clarity and protection when I’m both on and off the water.

A great pair of polarized sunglasses are essential for every fisherman. Not only does the polarization dim the glare off the water’s surface, it also makes spotting fish considerably easier. A well-fitted pair also doubles as safety glasses. You may be a world champion caster who has never felt the sharp pain of a 2/0 hook to the back of the head, but your friend next to you isn’t. It is reasons like this that I trust Costa sunglasses to help me catch fish and protect my eyes from my buddy’s weak double-haul.

Pros and Cons of Costa Sunglasses

Let’s start with the lenses. The lenses are made of either polycarbonate or lightwave glass. Both options have their advantages and disadvantages. For instance, polycarbonate lenses are less expensive and weigh less, but they also scratch easier than their glass counterpart. As for lightwave glass lenses, they are scratch-resistant, provide the best clarity in materials, and are 20% thinner and 22% lighter than the industry average. A disadvantage to glass is that they can crack when dropped hard enough on a big rock.

Regardless of glass or polycarbonate, Costa’s 580 lenses enhance colors by blocking harsh yellow light at 580nm on the visible light spectrum while boosting the amounts of red, green, and blues. This delivers higher contrast and creates a sharpened image. Oh yeah, these lenses also block 100% UV light while absorbing HEV light. Which if you haven’t caught on yet, UV and HEV light are bad for your eyes. In fact, they have been known to cause macular degeneration, pterygium, cataracts, and other eye diseases.

Costa has six lens colors to choose from, each individually manufactured to perform best in different scenarios. It is important to choose your lens color wisely, in order to get the most out of your sunglasses.

Are Costa Sunglasses Durable?

Lenses are important, but they aren’t everything. Costa also crafts some great looking frames. Most frames in the angler series are co-injected nylon frames. Simply put, these frames are tough. And, there are endless color options to choose from to fit your personality. These frames are also manufactured using an environmentally friendly bio-resign process. This bio-resign is the foundation for Costa’s plastic sunglass line of frames. For more information on the bio-resign process, visit Costa’s website at costadelmar.com.

The warranty does not cover you dropping the sunglasses into the lake, stepping on them with cleated wading boots, or your dog eating them while you are taking the perfect fish picture.
