WIKE'S TAILWATER CRIPPLE

  • Tricos: The Clear Winged Curse
    Tricos: The Clear Winged Curse

The Trico, or "Trikes" as anglers often call them, are small mayflies that hatch prolifically between early July and early September, and may last as late as October. They are commonly referred to in angling circles as the "white winged curse.” The defining characteristics of freshly hatched duns are dark bodies with white wings. The curse portion of the equation is that they are tiny, typically represented by hook sizes ranging from #22 to #26. When I show anglers the flies we use to represent Tricos, they often get mad. "How can I even tie it on? I can’t see it."....

    Wike's Tailwater PMD Cripple
The PMD hatch comes off in June and this is one of the few times of the year that large brown trout hold in the shallow shelves, tucked in amongst waving weed beds, gently rising to a mix of PMD’s, spent caddis, and any number of clumsy terrestrials. During a strong PMD hatch the largest browns don’t care too much if it’s full sun, full clouds, raining, or whatever . . . they are there to eat....

WHY FIVES: The Best Fly Rod for Western Fly Fishing
A 9-foot 5-weight is the ideal western trout rod and I can’t disagree; it serves equally well for bass, yellow perch bluegill and crappie. I consider it to be the most versatile stick a fledgling western flyfisher could own....

ZIA⚡️ The Fly Project Zia was designed as a youth rod or entry level rod for those getting into fly fishing. We noticed there was an opportunity in the market for a better quality, better performing rad for young and new casters. We also felt it was very important to build a rod that doesn't break the bank and create financial barriers to getting in the sport. This lightweight fly rod is designed in shorter 7’6” and 8'0” lengths which helps new anglers develop proper casting techniques. This rod is built on a quality carbon blank with high performing components and the same attention to detail that we put into every one of our rods. We didn't just design this rod for kids, we designed it with enough performance to be a go-to rod in anyone's quiver. Keep it in the truck for impromptu small water sessions, whether off the highway or deep in the backcountry fishing for cutthroat. flyproject.us #theflyproject #flyfishing #zia #missouririver #houseoffly

“Yes, you could say it is. And I wouldn't disagree. In fact, I like to give credit to the creators of original patterns, and I don't want to take credit for what's not completely my idea. I suppose you could call this pattern a Troth variant or a Wike's Hi-Viz, and both titles could be right. On the other hand, isn't a "creative idea" just two things we are familiar with put together for the first time?” “This variant works well on Montana's Missouri River, where I developed the pattern. It's a simple caddis pattern worth trying, whether you're fishing Montana or anywhere else caddis are hatching.” - words by Sam Wike.” Read the full article at houseoffly.us #flytying #flyfishing #dryflyfishing #caddisfly
