Lewiston Fishing Report

Lochsa River (ID)

The current flow is 381 cfs at Lowell. Folks are still giving good reports from the Lochsa. Most are still focusing their efforts fishing dry flies. We’ve been selling hoppers to quite a few anglers who have either come back or are going to fish up there. Also, nymphing would be a good, productive way to catch fish right now too. Any time now we are going to start seeing October caddis fly around. You should be prepared to fish those if headed that way.

North Fork Clearwater River (ID)

The current flow is 679 cfs at the Canyon Ranger Station. Nymphing will give you some success. When nymphing, think about fishing three flies at three different sizes. This will give the trout a buffet to choose from. Currently, we are still waiting to hear about October caddis flying around. The trout should be getting more and more active from colder water coming down, trying to fatten up before the cold winter hits.

Clearwater River (ID)

The current flow is 6,220 cfs at Spalding. Bigger numbers of fish have started making their way over the Lower Granite Dam. On 9/17 they counted over a thousand steelhead! With water temperatures starting to get lower, these fish are going to be moving into the Snake. They will be heading either to the Grande Ronde or Salmon Rivers. Plus, more and more fish will be moving up higher into the Clearwater. So, if you want to avoid the crowds, think about fishing up river.

Grande Ronde (WA)

The current flow is 553 cfs at Troy, Oregon. At any time now, the fishing will start getting really good. Fish are going to be moving into the Ronde to make their way up the river. Also, water temperatures have still been a little high. We are waiting on a big push of rain to cool the system down and get those fish active.
