Coeur d'Alene Fishing Report 12.06.18

Coeur d'Alene River

Going to be pretty slow fishing on the Coeur d'Alene.  The forecast is calling for temperatures in the teens at night and barely above freezing daytime temperatures.  These are not great conditions for the CdA river.  But hey, if you’re bored and need to get out of the house give it a go.  Nymphing deep with brassies, copper john's, San Juan worms are all good options.  Slowly moved streamers on the bottom will get some looks too.

St. Joe River

Well, if you live in relatively close distance to the St. Joe, it might be a fun option.  Fun in the sense that it would be good sightseeing.  There is an old saying, there are "fishing" days and there are "catching" days. It's going to be more of a "fishing" thing for a while.  Things to bring if you go:  a smile, a good sense of humor, gloves, soup, coffee, a Mr. Buddy heater, hand warmers, some bead head nymphs, and studded tires.  Have fun and drive safe guys!  Maybe a trip to Christmas Island would be better than here?  Come in and ask me more.

Clark Fork River (MT)

Burrrrrr.  Man, I'm getting to be a wuss as I get older.  I used to make a few winter trips over to the Clark Fork this time of year with hopes of maybe a big rainbow, or possibly a brown.  Mostly, I'd get a couple of whitefish, maybe.  This is a big maybe.  Driving from the Coeur d'Alene or Spokane area to the Clark Fork in the winter can be treacherous.  A couple mountain passes to cross and hopefully no black ice.  I'd pick the Coeur d'Alene river before I'd drive the extra hour for probably the same results as the Clark Fork.  Maybe staying home and filling the empty fly boxes from last season instead or try to fill that elk tag that's been burning a hole in your pocket, have a snowball fight with the kids, wrap some presents for Christmas are all good options.
